Mayotte becomes part of the administrative structure of France

I am not an avid reader of the Gibraltar chronicle but I think the presence of this country as part of the 14 territories that came under the government of the UK is an example of the strategic value of overseas possessions.

France with the Mayotte referendum added this territorial dimension to what we generally describe as la france d’outre mer. The basic idea is that in the evaluation of the factors that contribute to the greatness of a nation, economic influence, demography and the size of the territory are essential indicators.

Strategic Investment Fund

The Fonds stratégique d’investment

A few years ago a literary person(one of those people that understood France more than many people living in France) asked me a question on the functions of the public investment authority, or the caisse des depots et de consignation. I was able to answer the question properly and that is why I am doing this posting on the newly created fonds stratégique d’investment. That held its forst board meeting last december(www.latribune.fr 20 december 2009) and has the function of supporting small and medium sized companies, and to help secure the fate of industries vital to the interests of France. It was in accordance to these principles that it took a stake in the ownership of Valeo with other institutional investors such as Franklin resources, M&G Investment management, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. But this is what economic commentators are saying will the FSI request seats on the board of Valeo?
